Description:
CUTTING PLANE REGULATING DEVICE FOR SAWING MACHINES LIKE BAND SAWS

The invention concerns a cutting plane regulating device for sawing machines like band saws or the li¬ ke for wood, stones or other materials, adapted to permit in a simple and effective manner the regula¬ tion of the cutting plane of such sawing machines on different positions along horizontal and vertical planes orthogonal to each other.

Sawing machines like band saws or the like for cut¬ ting wood, stones, glass or other materials are known, and in particular from the Italian utility mo- del application n. 59473-B/85 filed on 22.11.1985 by the Firm Modelleria Dario F.lli di Dario Marioi^Lui- gi S.d.f. it is known a band saw of this kind of con¬ ventional type, supported on a horizontal support plane fixed by a vertical stud at the end of an arti- culated arm, formed by a forearm and an actual arm articulated to each other through studs, and wherein the free end of the arm referred to is hinged to a plate to be connected to either a wall or an upright rod, or it is adequately supported by a supporting frame, therefore providing the possibility to fix the plate at the respective high regulating position or to shift it vertically at different regulating positions thereof, with consequent displacement of the articulated arm and therefore of the band saw supported thereon respectively at fixed or variable high regulating position, depending on the size of the products of wood, stones, glass or other materials to be processed supported on adequate fixed supports, as well as on the processings to be performed on such products, in a way that such band saw is movable ho¬ rizontally at different regulating positions thereof with respect to the material of each product, so as to shape the respective outline thereof with the re¬ quired forms and dimensions, by operating on the ar-

ticulated arm and regulating it in advance at the height correspondent to that where the same product is situated. The present invention has the object, by utilizing a sawing machine like a band saw as well as at least an articulated arm of the kind referred to, to be able to machine products of wood, stone, glass or other materials, so as to obtain not only an outline having vertical edges, as heretofore, due to the fact that the cutting blade of the band saw is sliding exclusively along a vertical cutting plane with respect to the respective product, since the saw is arranged and movable on a horizontal pla¬ ne only, but also an outline having inclined edges with different and variable inclinations in both di- rections thereof with respect to the thickness of the material, by means of the use of a cutting plane regulating device associated with such sawing machine, adapted to permit to obtain differently shaped outlines with simple and rapid operations. This cutting plane regulating device for sawing ma¬ chines like the band saw and the like is obtained with the constructive characteristics substantially described with particular reference to the attached claims of the present patent. The invention will be better understandable from the following description, given solely by way of not limiting example and with reference to the accompa¬ nying drawings, wherein :

- Fig. 1 shows a front view of a sawing machine like a band saw supported by an articulated arm and in¬ cluding the cutting plane regulating device accor¬ ding to the invention, in a first embodiment the¬ reof and moved in two different operative positions along a displacement plane ; - Fig. 2 shows a side view of the sawing machine of Fig. 1, moved in two different operative positions along another displacement plane ;

- Figs. 3 and 4 show, respectively with a cut and en¬ larged front and side view, the regulating device of

Fig . 1 ;

- Figs. 5 and 6 show a front view of the sawing ma¬ chine of Fig. 1, with the present cutting plane re¬ gulating device respectively shaped in a second and a third embodiment and moved in two different opera¬ tive positions thereof along a displacement plane ;

- Figs. 7 and 8 show a side view of the machine of Figs. 5 and 6, respectively moved in two different operative positions thereof along another displace- ment plane.

By referring now to the Fig. 1, shown schematically therein is a sawing machine like a band saw 9 or the like, of per se known type, provided particularly for cutting wood, stones like marble etc., or glass or similar materials, constituted by a metallic frame 10 having for example almost triangular shape or al¬ so different shapes, in which a slidable cutting bla¬ de 11 is provided and driven in rotation by powered means of conventional kind (not shown) , said frame being supported at its lower side at the end of an articulated arm 12, which is identical to that sub¬ stantially described in the utility model application n. 59473-B/85, filed on the 22.11.1985 in the name of the Firm Dario F.lli di Dario Mario i Luigi S.d.f., which arm therefore also in this case comprises two separate parts 13 and 14, hinged to each other by a stud 15, the part 13 of which can be secured to a wall by means of a plate 16, at the desired fixed regulating heights, or it can be secured to a column, upright rod or any suitable vertical support struc¬ ture (not shown) , with the possibility to adjust the fixing height depending on the size of the products of wood, stones, glass etc.. to toe machined and the processings to be performed on such products, which in turn are supported by stationary supports (not shown) , in a way to be positioned within the opera¬ tion range of the cutting blade 11 of the band saw 9. In turn, the other part 14 of the articulated arm 12 referred to is provided for supporting at its free

end 17 the sawing machine like the band saw 9, by the present cutting plane regulating device 18, which will be described in detail hereinafter and is also rigidly secured to the frame 10 of such machine. obviously, the sawing machine may be in case suppor¬ ted by the articulated arm 12 also with articulated mechanisms of different and per se known kinds (not shown) , allowing also a reciprocal movement between the articulated arm and the sawing machine, thus fa- cilitating the handling of the sawing machine and its displacement in the different operative positions thereof, thereby without departing from the protec¬ tion field of the present invention. In turn, the present cutting plane regulating device 18 evident from Figs. 1-4 is substantially constitu¬ ted by at least a first and a second sliding saddle 19 and 20, interposed between the articulated arm 12 and the sawing machine 9 and joined reciprocally in the manner hereinafter described, adapted to provide for the adjustable displacement of the blade 11 of such machine respectively along two sliding planes orthogonal to each other, with a semicircular oscil¬ lating movement thereof, namely along a first hori¬ zontal plane passing through the first saddle 19 and along a second vertical plane passing through the se¬ cond saddle 20, with adjustment modes described in detail later. To this aim, the first saddle 19 is substantially constituted by two separate, recipro¬ cally engaged metallic saddle parts 21 and 22, re- spectively a first stationary saddle part 21 restra¬ ined at its lower side to the free end 17 of the ar¬ ticulated arm 12, by means of a threaded stud 23 in¬ tegral therewith and directed downward, which is in¬ serted through a correspondent through hole (not in- dicated) provided on a bush 24 fitted to the free end 17 of said articulated arm 12, and is secured by a tightening nut 25 thereto, and a movable se ilunar shaped saddle part 22 slidably engaging the previous stationary saddle part 21 and restrained at its upper

side to the second saddle 20. obviously, the reciprocal fixing between the articu¬ lated arm 12 and the stationary saddle part 21 may be effected also with joining systems different than that described solely by way of example, i. e. by providing a threaded bolt (not shown) inserted through the through hole of the ush 24 and a corre¬ spondent hole (not shown) provided on the lower side of the stationary saddle 21, where the free end of such bolt can be clamped tightly by means of per se known means, or also by providing further conventio¬ nal joining systems for the same purpose, thereby wi¬ thout departing from the protection field of the pre¬ sent invention. In particular, the stationary saddle part 21 is advantageously made as a short upwardly bent semicircular sector, as in the case of the Figu¬ res, or also downwardly bent in a direction opposite to that here represented, and is extended preferably symmetrically with respect to the joining position of the same saddle part to the articulated arm 12, for an extent at least equal to the greatest displa¬ cement to e performed by the sawing machine with re¬ spect to the normal vertical position assumed by it during the cutting operation of the outlines of each product, for obtaining vertical edges (which position is marked with A in Fig. 2) .

Moreover, such stationary saddle part 21 is hollowed with the same inner profile for the entire longitudi¬ nal extent thereof, which is bent like the semicir- cular sector, which profile in the present case has an overturned T shape and is provided with two upper lateral edges 26 and 27, spaced and faced to each o- ther, and a groove 28 below them having rectangular cross-section, but may of course have also shapes different than that described merely by way of exam¬ ple. In turn, the movable saddle part 22 is also ma¬ de shaped as a bent semicircular sector having the same bending radius of the preceding semicircular sector, however an extent greater than the previous

one and is shaped with the same profile of the inner hollow of the stationary saddle part 21 and so dimen¬ sioned as to be able to be slidably fit exactly in the same hollow, in a way that at the condition of reciprocally joining of both the saddle parts 21 and 22 it is possible to move slidably the movable saddle part 22 along a semicircular path in the stationary saddle part 21, for different extents of displacement thereof, which are adjustable at will for the entire extension of such stationary saddle part.

In order to be able to position from time to time the movable saddle part 22 on the respectively selected regulating position thereof, the stationary saddle part 21 is provided at its outer side with at least a regulating handle 29, having a pin 30 penetrating through a correspondent through hole 31 of the wall of the same saddle part and acting against the oppo¬ site outer surface of the movable saddle part 22, so that to permit or prevent the reciprocal sliding of such saddles depending on the fact that such pin is loosened or tightened with respect to the movable saddle part. obviously, there may be employed also regulating mem¬ bers of different and per se known type, instead of the handle, which act anyway with similar manners and for the same purposes, thus without departing from the protection field of the present invention, pesides, such movable saddle part 22 is provided at its upper part with a vertical support shaft 32, ha- ving a first portion 33 restrained thereto and direc¬ ted upward and suitably bent so as to form a second shaft portion 34, offset with respect to the prece¬ ding one and whose free end is restrained to the se¬ cond sliding saddle 20, in a way and for the purposes hereinafter described. obviously, such shaft may be made also in a way dif¬ ferent than that described solely by way of example, i.e. py providing it with rectilinear form and secu¬ ring it vertically at its ends to corresponding seats

provided on the movable saddle part 22 and the second sliding saddle 20, in a way that it is offset with respect to the members joining the articulated arm 12 and the stationary saddle part 21. In turn, the second sliding saddle 20 is substantial¬ ly constituted by a single metallic stationary saddle part 35, made preferably as a semicircular sector ha¬ ving reduced thickness and width, which is joined to the free end of the shaft portion 34, suitably bent, and in which at least an inner through slot 36 having semicircular shape too is provided, which is extended for an extension at least equal to the greatest di¬ splacement to be assumed by the sawing machine with respect to the normal vertical position assumed by it during cutting operation of the outlines of each pro¬ duct for obtaining vertical edges (which position is marked with in Fig. 1) .

The object of the through slot is to permit a corre¬ spondent pin 37, provided on the front wall of the frame 10 of the sawing machine 9 and projected fron- tally therefrom, to slide into such slot by penetra¬ ting therein, which pin is co-operating with a front regulating handle 38 acting on the same pin in a way to be loosened or tightened with respect thereto, re- spectively to permit said pin to slide freely through the slot, and therefore the sawing machine to be di¬ splaced into different regulating positions thereof, which are inclined differently on the same vertical plane with respect to each product to be machined, and then to prevent such free sliding by locking such sawing machine at the respectively selected re¬ gulating position thereof.

As clearly evident from the Figures, the sliding sad¬ dles 19 and 20 therefore are offset orthogonally to each other, and reciprocally restrained, thereby al¬ lowing to regulate the displacement and therefore the inclination of the cutting plane of the sawing machi¬ ne on different positions along horizontal and ver¬ tical planes orthogonal to each other, so as to cut

the outline of the products to be machined with dif¬ ferently inclined edges.

In fact, in the first case this is obtained by di¬ splacing the movable saddle part 22 with respect to the stationary saddle part 21, [ ? y acting on the han¬ dle 29 without acting on the saddle 20, with conse¬ quent correspondent displacement of the sawing machi¬ ne 9 arranged thereabove, due to the rigid connection provided between the movable saddle part 22 and the second saddle 20, and in the second case this is ob¬ tained by displacing the sawing machine with respect to the second saddle 20, by acting on the handle 38, without acting on the movable saddle part 22. Of course, it is possible to displace the cutting plane of the sawing machine 9 also along the horizontal and vertical planes, y effecting in such case the needed operations on the associated regula¬ ting saddles with the same manners as above. For the effects of the present invention, it is op- portune to point out that the regulation of inclina¬ tion of the sawing machine along the horizontal and vertical planes could be performed also without uti¬ lizing the above cited saddles, by employing in such case differently shaped means too, which permit to obtain regulation operations along semicircular paths, independent from each other of the same machi¬ ne, thereby without departing from the protection field of this invention. It is opportune to point out also that the above men- tioned regulating saddles may be shaped and joined together also on manners different than those described by way of example only, and that they may be also combined with other suitable mechanic, elec¬ tromechanical and the like members, by providing i.e. at least a hydraulic damping cylinder 39 inter¬ connected between the support shaft 32 (in the pre¬ sent case, on a side projection 40 thereof) and the frame 10 of the sawing machine 9, and adapted to e- xert on this latter a dampening action opposite to

the weight of the same machine during operation of displacement on the respectively selected regulating position thereof, or movement transmission members like gears, worm screws and helical gears, racks and sprocket wheels, hydraulic and pneumatic control sy¬ stems and the like, associated to such saddles and provided to cause the automatic operation or improve the movement transmission thereof, etc.. Ύ examining now Figs. 5 and 7, shown therein is the present regulating device in a second embodiment the¬ reof, which uses substantially the same previously described constructive component parts and differs from the a ove specified device in that in this case the stationary saddle part 21 and the movable saddle part 22 of the first sliding saddle 19 are rotated of 90° horizontally with respect to the preceding correspondent parts, and furthermore the second sli¬ ding saddle 20 is no more constituted by a single stationary saddle part, rather is also constituted by a stationary saddle part 41 and a movable saddle part 42 shaped as a semicircular sector, which are co-operating reciprocally due to the correspondent shape thereof (in the present case, having a respec¬ tive T shaped hollow and projection or also diffe- rently shaped profiles) , which permits a slidable connection thereof along the semicircular path defi¬ ned y the same saddle parts, wherein the stationa¬ ry saddle part 41 is rigidly secured to the bottom wall of the frame 10 of the sawing machine 9 and the movable saddle part 42 is longer than the previous one and secured rigidly and rotated horizontally of 90° with respect to the movable saddle part 22 of the first sliding saddle 19 situated below it. In this way, both the first and second sliding sad- dies 19 provide again for sliding along semicircular paths the sawing machine 9, at different regulating positions thereof, respectively on the same vertical and horizontal planes orthogonal to each other, by utilizing regulating handles with the same operative

modes described above.

Finally, by examining now Figs. 6 and 8, it is shown the present regulating device on a third embodiment thereof, wherein it is noted that in this case all the previously described saddles have een elimina¬ ted and at the place thereof at least a lever 43 has been employed, to cause the displacement in the se¬ micircular direction of the sawing machine 9 on the two horizontal and vertical planes, which lever is bent almost orthogonally so as to form a first and a second flat arm 44 and 45, provided at their ends with a respective through hole (not indicated) for the insertion of a correspondent projecting pin 46 and 47 therein, which are shifted orthogonally to each other and respectively secured at the level of the free end 17 of the articulated arm 12 and the front wall of the frame 10 of the sawing machine 9. Each pin is affected by a regulating handle associa¬ ted with the lever 43 (in the Figures the handle 48 only is shown, associated with the pin 47) , adapted to be loosened or tightened with respect to the as¬ sociated pin, respectively to permit the sawing ma¬ chine to be displaced on the relative regulating po¬ sition and to prevent it from being moved from such position. Therefore, the presence of the lever per¬ mits simple and quick regulating operations of the sawing machine to be performed, y rotating the le¬ ver 43 only around the pin 46 and then providing for rotation of the same machine, which is secured to such lever at a shifted position therefrom, along the horizontal sliding plane passing through such pin 46, and also rotation of the sawing machine on¬ ly around the pin 47, thereby providing for rota¬ tion of such machine along the vertical sliding pla- ne passing through such pin 47.
