Abstract:
A cutting tip of the cutting edge replacement type (1) characterized in that:
it comprises a base (8) and coating layers; the coating layers comprise inner
layers and an outer layer; the inner layers each is a specific layer containing
at least one element selected from the group consisting of the elements in Groups
IVa, Va, and VIa of the Periodic Table, Al, and Si; the uppermost layer of the inner
layers, which is in contact with the outer layer, is made of a compound comprising
at least titanium and one or the two elements selected between nitrogen and boron;
the outer layer is an alumina layer or a layer containing alumina; and that part
of the outer layer which participates in cutting satisfies the relationship
B/A≤0.9, wherein A (µm) is the average thickness on the flank surface
(3) side and B (µm) is the average thickness on the rake surface (2) side.
