Abstract:
A cutting tool including a rake surface, a flank surface, and a blade edge part, wherein: the cutting tool comprises a substrate and an AlTiN layer; the AlTiN layer includes cubic crystal grains of AlxTi1-xN; the atomic ratio x of Al is 0.7-0.95; the AlTiN layer includes a central part; and when the crystal orientations of each of the AlxTi1-xN crystal grains is specified, by electron backscatter diffraction analysis, relative to a cross-section when the AlTiN layer is sectioned in a plane that includes a normal to the rake surface and a normal to the flank surface, and a color map is created on the basis of the specified crystal orientations, the area ratio of (200)-plane-oriented crystal grains in the central part of the rake surface is 80% or higher, the area ratio of (200)-plane-oriented crystal grains in the central part of the flank surface is 80% or higher, and the area ratio of (200)-plane-oriented crystal grains in the central part of the blade edge part is 80% or higher in the color map.
