Abstract:
A cutting tool comprising: a body part formed from a cemented carbide; and a distal-end part formed from a binderless cubic-crystal boron nitride polycrystal, the distal-end part being joined to the body part. The body part has, in an axial direction along the rotation axis of the body part, a first end and a second end that is on the opposite side from the first end. The distal-end part has a neck part protruding from the second end along the axial direction, and an edge part that is linked to the neck part and is located at a position set farther apart from the second end than the neck part in the axial direction. The neck part includes, in the axial direction, an edge-part-side third end and a fourth end that is on the opposite side from the third end. The edge part includes a cutting edge on the outer periphery thereof. The cross-sectional area of the neck part in a cross-section orthogonal to the axial direction is greater, at the fourth end, than the area of a circumscribed circle around the cutting edge, the circumscribed circle being centered on the rotation axis in a front view seen from the distal-end-part side along the axial direction. The axial-direction length of the distal-end part is greater than the diameter of the circumscribed circle.
