Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a feature whereby stress concentration on a corner part of a fitting recess of a bearing main body can be sufficiently alleviated, and the durability of a cylinder block can be further improved. [Solution] A supporting wall part 26 for rotatably supporting a crankshaft is provided to a cylinder block 20. The supporting wall part 26 has a fitting recess 28 into which a bearing cap 50 can be fitted. Notched grooves 29 extending in a cylinder-bore-alignment direction are formed in left and right corner parts where a bottom surface 28a and a mating surface 28b of the fitting recess 28 intersect. The notched grooves 29 are formed so that when the notched grooves 29 are sectioned through an imaginary plane along the extension direction of the notched grooves 29, the cross-sectional shapes of the grooves are substantially arcuate. As a result, stress, which approaches a maximum value toward the extension-direction centers of the notched grooves 29, can be made nearly uniform in the extension direction of the notched grooves 29, and stress concentration can be effectively alleviated.
