Abstract:
This cylindrical linear motor (1) is provided with: an armature (2) that has a cylindrical core (3) and a winding (5) fitted in slots (4) provided to the outer circumference of the core (3); and a field coil (6) in which the armature (2) is inserted medially in a manner freely movable in the axial direction so that N poles and S poles are arranged alternately in the axial direction. The field coil (6) has radially-magnetized main-pole permanent magnets (10a) and axially-magnetized auxiliary-pole permanent magnets (10b) that are laid side by side in the axial direction in a Halbach array, and a back yoke (8) which is made of a magnetic material and which is disposed at the outer circumference of the permanent magnets (10a, 10b). The main-pole permanent magnets (10a) are configured to have an axial length (L1) longer than the axial length (L2) of the auxiliary-pole permanent magnets (10b).
