Title:
D-ARGININE FOR THE TREATMENT OF NEORODEGENERATIVE DISEASES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000010546
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
Described is generally the modulation of apoptotic cell death. In particular, pharmaceutical compositions comprising D-arginine or an analog thereof which are particularly useful for treating, preventing and/or delaying neuronal cell death are provided. Further a method for treating, preventing and/or delaying neuronal cell death in a subject comprising administering to a subject D-arginine or an analog thereof and the use of D-arginine or an analog thereof for the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases is described. In addition, food, feed and supplements therefor comprising D-arginine or an analog thereof are provided. Furthermore, methods for identifying and obtaining neuroprotective drugs are provided.
