The optimum amount of dampening water to be supplied in an offset printing machine varies in accordance with the constituents of water before it is used for preparation of the dampening water. The present invention provides a dampening water feeder that can maintain the optimum amount of dampening water to be supplied even when the constituents of the water before it is used for preparation of the dampening water vary. The constituents included in water supplied from a water supply unit (1) are changed at a water quality processing unit (5), and dampening water is supplied from a dampening water supply unit (19) to a printing machine through a by-pass route (10) for by-passing the water quality processing unit (5) and a dampening water preparing unit (11) at which the dampening water is prepared by mixing etching solution and the water at a predetermined ratio. A dampening water control unit (24) changes the amount of the dampening water to be supplied from the dampening water supply unit (19) to the printing machine on the basis of whether the water is supplied to the dampening water preparing unit (11) via the water quality processing unit (5) or via the by-pass route (10).
