Abstract:

A damper is provided with: a damper body having a cylinder, a piston which is slidably inserted in the cylinder and divides the inside of the cylinder into the extension-side chamber and the compression-side chamber, and a piston rod which is inserted in the cylinder and is connected to the piston; and a damping force adjusting mechanism having a flow path which permits the passage of fluid only during either the extension of the damper body or the contraction thereof, a valve seat which is provided in the middle of the flow path, a valve element which can advance and retract relative to the valve seat, and a motor which adjusts the area of the flow path by driving the valve element to advance and retract the valve element relative to the valve seat. In the damper, when the valve element closes the flow path by moving from a separated position at which the valve element is separated from the valve seat to a seated position at which the valve element is seated on the valve seat, electricity is conducted to the motor in such a manner that the valve element moves the distance which is two or more times as large as the distance from the separated position to the seated position.
