A data communication system for distributively placing data into channels where neither notch nor noise exists, thereby providing power line communication exhibiting an excellent communication quality. There are included a step (S01) in which a pilot tone is transmitted from a data transmitting apparatus to a data receiving apparatus; a step (S03) in which the data receiving apparatus detects, based on the pilot tone, frequency bands, where notches exist, out of frequency bands used for a power line communication; a step (S05) in which the data receiving apparatus transmits, as channel information, the information of the frequency bands where the notches exist to the data transmitting apparatus; a step (S07) in which the data transmitting apparatus sets, as channels to be used for the power line communication, the channels of the frequency bands where no notches exist; and a step (S09) in which the data transmitting apparatus places data, which are to be transmitted, into the channels, and then transmits the data to the data receiving apparatus.
