A data processing device comprising: a first control means (5) requiring a first startup time from when operation power is supplied and startup commences until startup is completed; a second control means (12) requiring a second startup time shorter than the first startup time, from when operation power is supplied and startup commences until startup is completed; and a data processing means (16). The data processing means is configured so as to be capable of switching between a first processing mode in which data is processed without linking to the first control means and a second processing mode in which data is processed while linked to the first control means. During the period after the second control means has completed startup and before the first control means has completed startup, the data processing means operates in the first processing mode. During the period after the first control means has completed startup, the data processing means operates in the second processing mode. After an error has occurred in the first control means, the data processing means operates in the first processing mode.
