The present invention provides a data transmission method and apparatus. The method comprises: an access network device determines a transmission mode of service data, the transmission mode comprising a single transmission mode and a transmission mode of automatic retransmission; the access network device sends first indication information to a terminal device, the first indication information being used for indicating the determined transmission mode; and the access network device uses the determined transmission mode to send the service data to the terminal device. The data transmission method and apparatus in the present invention can satisfy the requirements on reliability and flexible time delay.
