Abstract:

A reproduction device includes a reproduction head (18) for reproducing encoded data from a recording medium, an internal code APP circuit (22) for decoding an internal code of encoded data, and an external code APP circuit (24) for decoding an external code and outputting the result as advanced information on the internal code to the internal code APP circuit (22). The device further includes a &sgr setting circuit (21) for setting a &sgr value in the internal code APP circuit (22) and an error rate calculation circuit (29) for calculating an error rate. The &sgr setting circuit (21) changes the &sgr value and the error rate calculation circuit (29) calculates an error rate for each of the &sgr values. According to the calculated error rate, the &sgr setting circuit (21) decides a &sgr value at which a preferable error rate can be obtained as an optimal &sgr value and the sets the &sgr value in the internal code APP circuit (22).
