Description:
DECORATIVE AND/OR PROTECTIVE BOOT COVER

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001]The present invention is related to accessories for footwear, and, more particularly, to decorative and/or protective covers for boots that have an elongated elastic sleeve portion with fur, feathers, or other decorative articles fastened thereto.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Decorative designs are highly desired in clothing and accessories. These desires are often manifested in the latest styles and vogue, which are constantly changing. New designs define the state of what is "in" at the moment. Keeping up with these changes often requires large investments in ever changing clothing, such as the latest jeans, tops, sneakers, and other modes of dress, and footwear, such as high heels, fiat shoes, wedges, and sport shoes. Currently, there is a trend of being individualistic while at the same time following the latest fashion statement.

More specifically, footwear of known designs and configurations previously devised and utilized for the purpose of selectively changing the appearance of apparel through conventional methods and apparatuses are known to consist basically of familiar, expected, and obvious structural configurations. For example, a person has shoes of one color to match certain clothing and shoes of a different color to match other clothing.

[0004] U.S. Patent No. 8,001 ,706, issued Aug. 23, 2011, to Jeffers and Dunbars, provides a decorative cover for embellishing footwear. It includes a cover incorporated with a sock. The cover is worn over the footwear for covering and enhancing it with at least one embellishment. The sock encloses a user's foot and is incorporated with the cover at the top of the sock to prevent the cover from slipping down. To hold the cover down over the footwear, a disconnecting strap extends under the arch of the footwear. To hold the cover securely against the footwear, a zippered seam runs along the rear of the cover, parallel to a user's leg.

[0005] U.S. Patent Application No. 20070084080, issued Apr. 19, 2007, to Heather and Eklund, discloses a boot topper. The tube is comprised of a foldable, decorative tubular portion with an inwardly turned portion and an outwardly turned portion. The outwardly turned portion includes an ornamental design thereon and/or a decoration extending therefrom.

[0006] Accordingly, a need remains for a decorative footwear accessory to match the latest trends and complement clothing.

[0007] As such, it may be appreciated that there continues to be a need for a new and improved decorative footwear accessory, as set forth by the instant invention, which addresses the problems of ease of use as well as effectiveness in construction and providing the decorative and protective boot covers. In this respect, the present invention substantially fulfills this need.

However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced with only some of the described aspects. For purposes of explanation, specific numbers, materials, and configurations are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the illustrative embodiments. However, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without the specific details. In other instances, well-known features are omitted or simplified in order to not obscure the illustrative embodiments.

[0027] In a preferred embodiment, the present decorative and/or protective boot cover, described herein, is particularly well suited for removably attaching to a boot with an elongated tubular throat portion. It is comprised of an elastic sleeve portion with decorative furs, feathers, and other similar decorative materials to vary styles and sizes to augment or enhance the appearance the footwear (or boots herein) and/or provide protection of the underlying boot structure from the elements.

[0028] According to one embodiment, a decorative and/or protective boot cover for a boot with an elongated tubular throat portion may summarized as including an elastic sleeve that has an upper edge and a lower edge. The upper edge has a length that is sized to at least partially encircle the throat portion of the boot at an upper attachment location offset from the mouth of the boot in a direction toward the lower region of the boot, and the lower edge has a length that is sized to at least partially encircle the throat portion of the boot at a lower attachment location in the lower region of the boot, and an attachment system coupled to the elastic sleeve to removably attach the boot cover to the throat portion of the boot. The elastic sleeve is configured to conceal a substantial portion of the throat portion of the boot when the boot cover is attached thereto.

[0029] In some embodiments, the attachment system may include a first elastic edge that has a perimeter sized to completely encircle the throat portion of the boot in a stretched configuration at the lower attachment location and a second elastic edge having a perimeter sized to completely encircle the throat portion of the boot in a stretched configuration at the upper attachment location. The elastic sleeve may be tubular and extend between the first elastic edge and the second elastic edge.

[0030] In accordance with the invention, the decorative and/or protective boot cover includes a decorative portion towards the outer side of the sleeve portion.
