Abstract:
The invention relates to a decorative table illuminating device comprising a base (1) and a plurality of long and narrow, vertical tube members (10) of varying lengths, which are provided with each a small top lamp (13). Each tube member (10) is attached detachable to the base L(1) by sockets (U2; 17) with electric connections in the base in order to permit easy variation of the pattern of the light points. According to a preferred embodiment the tube members (10) are also designed to form two telescopic tubes (16, 17).

Claims:
P A T E N T C L A I M S
1. Decorative table illuminating device comprising a base (1) and a plurality of long and narrow, vertical tube members (10) of varying lengths, which are attached to the top wall (3) of the base and are provided with each a small top lamp (13), characterized in that each tube member (10) is attached detachable from the base (1) by a socket (2) in the base, which socket is provided with electrical connections (7,8 ; 12,14) for connecting the associated lamp (13) with an attachment plug (9).
2. Illuminating device according to claim 1, characterized in that each tube member (10) has a bottom end (6) provided with a thread adapted to be screwed down into the associated socket (2), which also is threaded.
3. Illuminating device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the sockets (2) are completely countersunk into the base (1).
4. Illuminating device according to any of claims 13, characterized in that the tube members comprise each two telescopic tubes (16,17), provided with interior conductive paths (12a, 14a), which electrically connect the lamps (13) to the threaded ends (6) of the tube members.

Illuminating device according to claim 1, characterized in that the tube members comprise each two telescopic tubes (16,17), provided with interior conductive paths (12a, 14a) and contact members (12b, 14b), which electrically connect the lamps (13) with the bottom parts (17) of the telescopic tube members, which parts are fixedly'attached to the base (1) and form a socket (2) of the top tube members (16).
Description:
Decorative Table Illuminating Device.

The present invention relates to a decorative table illuminating device comprising a base and a plurality of long and narrow, vertical tube members of varying lengths, which are attached to the top wall of the base and are provided with each a small top lamp.

Illuminating devices of this type are known with the tube members arranged in several lines and with lengths adapted such that the lamps form a decorative three-dimensional luminous pattern.

The pattern formed by the lamps is decided at the production of the devices, and it is possible to produce a comparatively great number of different patterns for distribution to different stores. It is difficult, however, to satisfy all trends in taste, and many illuminating devices sell slowly or are returned.

The object of the invention is to increase the number of patterns in a simple way in order to make it possible to satisfy all trends of taste.

This is achieved, according to the invention, in that each tube member is attached detachable from the base by a socket in the base, which socket is provided with electrical connections for connecting the associated lamp with an attachment plug.

In this way it is possible when the illuminating device is ready to be used to arrange the tube members with different lengths so that the lamps form a desired pattern. If, after the lapse of a period of time, one has become tired of the appearance of the illuminating device, it is easy to rearrange the tube members such that the lamps form a new pattern.

Suitable embodiments of the illuminating device according to the' invention are set forth in claims 2-5. Particularly suitable is to design the tube members like two telescopic tubes making the range of variation even better. Tube members arranged in this way may, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, have the bottom tubes fixedly attached to the base, so that the telescopic movability in combination with a possibility of easy rearrangement of the tube members contributes to the formation of various patterns of the position of the lamps.

The invention is explained more in detail in the following with reference to the attached drawing, which by way of example discloses two embodiments of an illuminating device according to the invention, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through the base, Figure 2 is a cross sectional view through the base, and Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the bottom part of a telescopic tube member with a bottom part fixedly attached to the base.

Figure 1 discloses a base 1 provided with a row of sockets 2.

The sockets are arranged in three rows, as shown in Fig. 2. The base 1 has a plain top wall 3 made of sheet-metal with sloping side walls 4.

Each socket 2 is attached electrically insulated to the under side of the plain top wall 3 of the base 1 at openings 5 for receiving threaded bottom ends 6 of the tube members 10 in the sockets 2, which also are provided with interior threads. The threads of the sockets 2 are connected to a conductor wire 7 and their bottom parts have electrically insulated contacts, which as known per se are connected to a second conductor wire 8, and the wires 7,8 are brought together to form a mains connection 9.

The bottom ends 6 of the tube members 10 have threads 11, which by a conductor wire 12 are connected to one terminal of a lamp 13. Its other terminal is by a conductor wire 14 connected to an electric bottom contact 15 of the bottom end portion 6 of the tube member. At screwing a tube member 10 into a socket 2, the associated lamp 13 is connected by the wires 12,14 and wires 7,8 to the mains connection 9.

As shown in Fig. 3 the tube member 10 may with advantage be designed like two telescopic tubes 16,17. The top lamp 3 of each tube member 10 may be permanently mounted but is preferably provided with threads for being screwed into a threaded socket 18 in the top of the tube member 10, as known per se. The wires 12,14 are with this design suitably replaced by conductive paths 12a, 14a at the interior walls of the tubes 16,17, suitably in the shape of metallizing on the interior walls of the tubes, and spring contacts 12b, 14b, so that the upper tube 16 can be pulled away from the bottom tube 17 and moved to another bottom tube 17. The upper tubes 16 should preferably have various lengths for increasing the possibilities of variations.

The invention is of course not restricted to the embodiments here shown and described by way of example but may be modified in various ways within the scope of the invention defined by the claims. Hence, the bottom tube 17 in Fig. 3 may be higher, so that amendment of the pattern of the light spots may be carried out simply by raising and lowering of the upper tubes 16. Moreover, the electrical devices may be arranged in a number of different ways.
