Disclosed is a dehumidifier that specifies a located range of an object to dry even when the room's interior humidity is high. For that purpose, the dehumidifier is equipped with dehumidifying means 5 for removing moisture contained in room air A; a blower fan that blows dry air B obtained by drawing in the room air A and passing it through the dehumidifying means 5; a humidity sensor 4 that detects room humidity; wind-direction converting means 1 for varying a blowing direction of the dry air B; an infrared-ray sensor 6 that non-contactingly detects a surface temperature of laundry; and a control circuit 7 that detects a drying state of the laundry from the surface temperature obtained from the infrared-ray sensor 6 to control the wind-direction converting means 1 according to the drying status of the laundry, wherein the control circuit 7 judges whether room humidity is higher than a predetermined humidity before detecting a surface temperature of laundry to control a fan motor 2a and the wind-direction converting means 1 so that the dehumidifying capacity of the dehumidifying means 5 is at a maximum until the room humidity reaches a predetermined humidity level if the room humidity level is higher than the predetermined humidity level.
