Disclosed is a method for inhibiting the dehydrobromination of methyl 2-bromo-3-[4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]phenyl]- propionate (1) by mixing methyl 2-bromo-3-[4-[2-(5-ethyl- 2-pyridyl)ethoxy]phenyl]propionate with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of ester compounds and ketone compounds.  The compound (1) is important as an intermediate raw material for the production of a therapeutic agent having an excellent therapeutic effect on type-2 diabetes associated with the insufficient action of insulin.
