Title:
DEMULSIFIERS FOR SEPARATION OF WATER FROM OIL AND PREPARATION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/084104
Kind Code:
A4
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel crude oil demulsifier comprises a copolymer of styrene with pyridine or a carboxylic acid or its salt selected from methacrylic, acrylic, maleic or fumaric acid with molecular weight in the range of 10000 to 600000 Daltons, dose in the range of 20-1000 ppm. The invention further relates to a process for demulsification of crude oil by treating crude oil with the copolymer in the range of 20-1000 ppm in the temperature range of 25-40°C by shaking to obtain demulsified crude oil having crude oil with < 1% water, and Water < 100 ppm oil.

1. A process for demulsification of crude oil, said process comprising treating crude oil with a copolymer in the range of 20-1000 ppm in the temperature range of 25-40°C by shaking to obtain demulsified crude oil having crude oil with < 1% water, and Water < 100 ppm oil.

2. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein co-polymer is selected from co-polymer using styrene and sodium acrylate; co-polymer using styrene and sodium fumarate; or co-polymer using styrene and 4-vinyl pyridine.

3. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein co-polymer of styrene with pyridine or a carboxylic acid or its salt selected from methacrylic, acrylic, maleic or fumaric acid with molecular weight in the range of 10000 to 600000 Daltons.

4. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein demulsifying is done in 1-10 minutes.

5. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the demulsify efficiency is > 95%.

6. Use of a copolymer of styrene with pyridine or a carboxylic acid or its salt selected from methacyrlic, acrylic, maleic or fumaric acid with molecular weight in the range or 10000 to 60000 Daltons, dose in the range of 20-1000 ppm for demulsification of crude oil.
