Description:
A DENTAL IMP ANT HAVING AN EXPANDABLE SLEEVE Technical Field

The present invention is related to a dental implant having an expandable sleeve which enables strong anchoring without the need to use cement during initial insertion and which does not lead to damage during revision operations.

Prior Art

Dental implants are screws made of preferably titanium that are fixed to the jaw bone, instead of teeth that are missing. Dental implants are implanted into the jaw bone surgically. Following the implantation of the implant into the jaw bone the implant takes the place of a real tooth root and then becomes ready to carry a prosthesis (superstructure) screwed thereon. The closest alternative to natural teeth nowadays is implants. The implanted tooth provides better speaking and chewing functions in comparison to traditional dental bridges and prosthesis.

The implants used nowadays comprise screws implanted into the jaw bone and an abutment. The threaded screw is implanted into the jaw bone and the artificial tooth is positioned onto the abutment part. The implants may come loose from the jaw bone due to forces applied onto the implant in time or during the early stages (immediately) following the implantation of implants to (old, osteoporosis) patients whose jaw bone is not strong. Due to such loosening the patient might have to undergo a revision surgery and in some negative cases, the implant may also need to be removed. In present implants, any kind of solution besides surface modification that may increase the anchoring against such negative situations is not used. Besides this, the solution is usually applied to the implant and any other study for an additional apparatus apart from the implant is not carried out. A dental implant is mentioned in the international patent document numbered WO2015105227 of the known state of the art. Obj ects of the Invention

Another object of the invention is to carry out a dental implant having an expandable sleeve which enables easy revision surgery by means of the additional sleeve that has been inserted into the jaw bone.

Another object of the invention is to carry out a dental implant having an expandable sleeve which provides increased anchoring as it can be expanded inside the jaw bone. Detailed Description of the Invention

The dental implant having en expandable sleeve that is carried out in order to reach the object of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which;

Fig. 1. Is the perspective view of the dental implant having an expandable sleeve.

Fig. 2. Is the blown up perspective view of the dental implant having an expandable sleeve.

Fig. 3. Is the side view of the sleeve.

The parts in the figures are numbered individually and the references corresponding to the related part are listed below. 1. A dental implant having en expandable sleeve

2. Abutment 2.1. Slot

3. Implant

3.1. Threaded section

4. Sleeve

4.1. Outer surface

4.2. End part

4.3. Preventive part

The dental implant (1) having an expandable sleeve which enables strong anchoring during initial placement and which does not lead to damage during revision operations basically comprises;

- at least an abutment (2) into which the artificial tooth is fixed,

- at least an implant (3) which enables for the abutment (2) to stay fixed,

- at least a sleeve (4) which is mounted into the jaw bone in order to insert the implant (3) therein, which is ensured to stay fixed into the jaw bone by means of the prevention parts (4.3) provided around the implant, having an end (4.2) that is especially formed which can be additionally expanded.

The dental implant (1) having an expandable sleeve according to the invention comprises an abutment (2) into which an artificial tooth is placed. The abutment

(2) according to an embodiment of the invention comprises a slot (2.1) and the artificial tooth is placed inside this slot (2.1). The slot (2.1) which is located inside the abutment (2) can preferably be shaped like a hollow groove or any other kind of geometrical shape that can accommodate the artificial tooth. The geometrical shape mentioned herein, accommodates the artificial tooth inside the abutment (2) and ensures that the tooth stays inside the abutment (2). An implant

(3) is provided which is located below the abutment (2), and which is mounted into the sleeve (4), and can move further inside the sleeve (4) when it is rotated around its own axis and which can move out of the sleeve (4) in order to be removed when it is rotated in the opposite direction. The implant (3) has threads (3.1) around it up to certain sizes, wherein the movement of the implant (3) is carried out by means of the pitches of the threads (3.1) when rotated around its own axis. The implant (3) is directly inserted into the jaw bone and is fixed into the jaw bone by means of a sleeve (4). The sleeve (4) used in the embodiment of the invention is produced such that it is larger than the implant (3) in size and is mounted directly into the jaw bone. The outer surface (4.1) located around the sleeve (4) is coated with a special coating material in order to increase anchoring. By means of encasing of the coating onto the outer surface (4.1) the integration of the sleeve (4) with the jaw bone is faster. An end part (4.2) is also provided on the sleeve (4) which can be expanded . When the end (4.2) opens, it expands the sleeve (4) and it therefore ensures that the sleeve (4) is completely fixed into the jaw bone (4.2) such that it cannot loosen from the jaw bone. Preventive parts (4.3) are also provided on the sleeve (4) in addition to the end part (4.2). Said preventive parts (4.3) ensure that the sleeve (4) does not come loose from the jaw bone and prevent the sleeve (4) from moving inside the jaw bone due to forces received onto the implant (3) from different directions. The sleeve (4) can stay fixed in its place for extended period of time by means of the outer surface (4.1) coating, the end part (4.2) and the preventive part (4.3) and said sleeve does not move due to forces received from any direction. The implantation and usage of the dental implant having an expandable sleeve is carried out as mentioned below. A hole is drilled into the jaw bone of the patient according to the size of the sleeve (4) to be fitted therein. After the hole is opened, a sleeve (4) is inserted through the hole, and placed into the jaw bone. After the sleeve (4) is placed, the end part (4.2) opens up inside the jaw bone and an expansion is provided at the end part (4.2) of the sleeve (4). The sleeve (4) is prevented from coming loose from the jaw bone by means of the end part (4.2) that has been opened. The implant (3) is rotated around its own axis following the insertion of the sleeve (4) and is further inserted into the sleeve (4) and the artificial tooth is placed into the abutment (2) located on the implant (3). In cases where any kind of revision needs to be carried out the implant (3) can be taken out of the sleeve (4) while the sleeve can still remain inside the jaw bone. By this means the revision surgery process can be easily performed.
