A dental light irradiation unit in which multipurpose diagnosis and treatment can be carried out using one unit without providing a plurality of units depending on the purpose of diagnosis and treatment and a patient can be treated in safety. The dental light irradiation unit comprises a light source bonded to the vicinity of first focal point of a rotary ellipsoidal reflector, a band-pass filter disposed on the front face of the reflector, a photoconductor disposed on the front face of the reflector at one end thereof, and a control circuit which can control the lighting time or the optical output of the light source in a plurality of stages by an electric or mechanical means. The light source can be switched between a low output state for continuous lighting and a high output state for short time lighting of 60 sec or less and the intensity of irradiating light, the wavelength range of irradiating light or the irradiating time of the light source can be selected depending on the use conditions of the dental light irradiation unit.
