Title:
DESCRIPTION FOR CECILANE INVENTION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/035214
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
Cecilane is a page and line marker. It is used to identify a page and line/point of memory of a book, journal, magazine newspaper or any reading material, where a reader left reading or viewing and wants to refer or get readily. Cecilane provides a reader or user with an easy and quick way of finding the page and line last read or referred to. Similarly the page could be of such interest to a user as for the user to want to remember or get to it at once. Cecilane will not fall even when the book or reading material falls accidentally or is intentionally mishandled as it well fastened. It is made of plastic, wood, metal or paper and any other stiff malleable material.

Description:
CECILANE

1

DESCRIPTION FOR CECILANE INVENTION

Cecilane is a page and Line Marker with a difference that helps you identify your exact line/point of emphasis that your were reading or referring to. All this is possible without making a physical mark on 5. your page. This novel idea was conceived in September 1 986.

Anyone who reads must know just how problematic and frustrating it is to try and recall the exact line where you left off even though you may be able to find the page you left off from.

Cecilane is engineered and designed to go further than any known 1 0. book mark by helping the user/reader not only find the page quicker but also the actual line/point of emphasis. Hence the reader/user is able to know where to continue from or refer readily.

It is suggested that for easy understanding study Figures I through 5 before further reading.

1 5. Cecilane is made of solid material, plastic, wood metal or paper and any other stiff material that is malleable. It comprises of a frame (Figure 1 and 2), a protruding ridge (Figure 3) with a protruding edge (Figure 4 and 5) .

The frame illustrated by Figure 1 and 2 holds all the components of 20. Cecilane together. The size of the frame and the components that it holds, may change for aesthetic purposes be it through colour, design and material used, however the basic components and principle described will remain as these are the novel parts of the invention.

All sizes of the components, namely the frame, flexible tip, open 25. section, protruding ridge and protruding edge vary in size as each book, magazine or reading material have different sized pages, print (letter sizes) and page layouts. Thus the manufacturing process of Cecilane accommodates these factors.

The frame and all components of Cecilane are manufactured through 30. injection molds that have been prefabricated specifically to allow production of Cecilane.

As detailed out and illustrated by Fig. 1 and 2, the open section allows the user/reader the ability to position the Cecilane, such that the desired line/point of emphasis is "highlighted" and made visible (Fig 4) .

Surrounding the open cut section mentioned in Fig 1 and 2 is solid material whose function is to block the line above and below, thus leaving only the line/point of emphasis quickly visible though the open cut section.

5. Cecilane is basically thin size ranging from 0.1 5mm to 1 0mm (see Fig

3) but rigid so that not to much thickness is added to the book. It is also designed such that it has a slight protrusion from the side of the book/reading material (Fig 4 and 5) . This is to enable easy and quick visibility and also lets a blind user easily access it.

1 0. The flexible tip illustrated in Fig 2 and 3 is of prime importance. This flexible tip is what allows paper to move freely in and out, while at the same time providing a reasonable amount of tension that ensures that is firmly in position hence stopping it from moving once secured. The tension is enhanced by the protruding ridge attached to the

1 5. flexible tip.

How does is Work?

Quite simply. All you have to do is attach Cecilane to the page through the opening between the flexible tip (Fig 3), and upper frame, letting the open section run above the point/line of emphasis that you 20. want to "highlight" for later recall.

Once this is done the outcome can be seen illustrated in Fig 4.

Cecilane is designed and engineered so that:

1 . You are able to find your page at once, then followed by your line/point of emphasis, which is visible through the open 25. section, the instant you open your page.

Should you or someone else mishandle your book/reading material accidently without physically removing the Cecilane you will still be able to find your point/line of emphasis.

3. You have the option of moving it with ease from one line/page 30. to another.

BOOKMARK

CECILANE

Allows you instant access to your line/point of emphasis through the open section.

2. Won't fall off as it has a flexible tip with a protuding edge that grips on to the page.

3. Protudes from the side of the reading material (Figure 5) next to line/point of emphasis you would like to recall.

4. Can be positioned anywhere along the page and made to stay firmly position with a specific purpose behind the positioning.

5. Easily visible from the side of the book or reading material (Fig 5).

6. will not fall off if you suspend the book by its covers in the air or carelessly mishandled.

7. Is available in different sizes for different sized letters pages and reading material.

BOOK MARK

Book Mark

1. Allows you to access to your page.

Will fall out as does not have a flexible tip and tension grip to hold onto the page.

3. Protudes from the top, just to let you find the page only.

4. Can move up and down the page but with no specific or meaningful purpose.

5. Not visible from the side of the book/reading material.

Will fall off if book is suspended in the air, and when held by its covers or carelessly mishandled.

7. Feature non existent.
