The present invention provides a design method for a progressive refractive power lens which is equipped with a near portion for seeing near distance, a distance portion for seeing distance farther than the near distance, and an intermediate portion provided between the near portion and the distance portion and having a progressive refractive function, and in which transmissive astigmatism is added to the near portion and the intermediate portion among the distance portion, the near portion, and the intermediate portion, and technologies related thereto. The design method comprises a mode selection step for determining, according to a prescribed dioptric power, whether to select an AS-oriented mode in which the amount of the transmissive astigmatism to be added is set such that the amount of refractive power in a horizontal direction becomes larger than the amount of refractive power in a vertical direction or a PW-oriented mode in which the amount of the transmissive astigmatism to be added is set such that the amount of refractive power in the vertical direction becomes larger than the amount of refractive power in the horizontal direction.
