Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention disclose a designated router election method, an apparatus, a router, and a communications system. The method comprises: detecting whether there is a designated router in a new communications network when accessing the new communications network; if there is a designated router, accepting the designated router and completing a designated router election; and if there is no designated router, triggering election of a designated router. In the embodiments of the invention, when a router accesses a new network, election is not triggered immediately and the network is first monitored to determine whether there is a DIS. If there is a DIS in the network, the DIS is accepted and DIS election is completed, and if there is no DIS, DIS election is performed. The use of non-preemptive election solves a problem in which an existing preemptive DIS election algorithm causes frequent DIS switching.
