A detergent composition which comprises a fluorine compound containing no chlorine atom and at least one compound selected between geraniol and nerol. In the detergent composition, the ratio of the sum of the geraniol and nerol to the amount of the fluorine compound containing no chlorine atom is preferably in the range of from 10/90 to 80/20 by weight and the total amount of the geraniol, nerol, and fluorine compound containing no chlorine atom is preferably 30 wt.% or larger. This detergent composition has high detergency especially in cleaning for flux removal. In cleaning, an article with a fouling substance adherent thereto is cleaned with the detergent composition and then rinsed with a rinse solvent comprising at least 80 wt.% fluorine compound containing no chlorine atom. Thereafter, this article preferably is further cleaned with a steam containing a fluorine compound containing no chlorine atom.
