This mount/dismount determination device (10) determines the mounting and dismounting of a rider onto/off of a two-wheeled inverted pendulum vehicle (1) that travels while maintaining an inverted pendulum state. Also, the mount/dismount determination device is provided with: an optical fiber (11) that is provided laid down across step sections (24L, 24R) onto/off of which the rider mounts/dismounts; a light-emitting unit (12) that emits detection light and that is connected to one end of the optical fiber; a light reception unit (13) that receives the detection light from the light-emitting unit and that is connected to the other end of the optical fiber; at least one light transmission increasing/decreasing unit (14) that increases and decreases the amount of transmitted detection light that is transmitted within the optical fiber in lockstep with the displacement in the vertical direction of the step sections when the rider mounts/dismounts; and a determination unit (15) that determines the mounting and dismounting of the rider on the basis of the amount of received detection light by the light reception unit.
