Abstract:
The invention concerns a device for applying a cosmetic product with a holder (1) and an applicator element (20), in which the holder has two arms (24,26) arranged at a distance from each other and which is also designed to hold the applicator element between both arms, in which both arms are adjustable in relation to each other and can assume at least two operating positions, a first operating position, in which the distance between both arms is sufficient to introduce the applicator element into the gap between both arms or to remove it therefrom and a second operating position, in which the distance between both arms is smaller than in the first operating position and in which the applicator element is retained in the gap by the arms.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. Device for applying a cosmetic product with a holder (18) and an applicator element (20), in which

the holder has two arms (24, 26) arranged a distance from each other and is designed to hold the applicator element between both arms,

characterised in that

both arms (24, 26) can be adjusted in relation to each other and can adopt at least two operating positions, namely

a first operating position, in which the distance between both arms is sufficient to introduce or remove the applicator element (20) into and from the gap between both arms, and

a second operating position, in which the distance between both arms is smaller than in the first operating position and in which the applicator element is retained in the in the gap by the arms.

2. Device in accordance with claim 1 , characterised in that the applicator element (20) can be rotated or pivoted in the second operating position of the arms (24, 26) around an axle which runs through both arms.

3. Device in accordance with claim 1 or 2, characterised by an elastic reset force which works against a resetting of the arms (24, 26) from the second to the first operating position.

4. Device in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterised by a pivot- thrust bearing (28) between both arms (24, 26), around which at least one of the arms can be pivoted to reset between the first and the second operating position.

Device in accordance with claim 4, characterised in that the holder (18) has a recess (30) in an area located opposite the arms (24, 26) in respect of the pivoMhrust bearing (28) den arms and a lateral compression of this area effects a resetting of the arms towards the first operating position,

6. Device in accordance with claim 4 or 5, characterised in that the pivot-thrust bearing (28) is designed to be integral with at least one of the arms (24, 26).

7. Device in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterised in that at least one of the arms (24, 26) and/or the area facing the arms in respect of the pivot-thrust bearing (28) is/are made of plastic, in particular of ABS, PP, PE, POM or PVC.

8. Device in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterised in that at least one of the arms (24, 26) has a recess (36, 38) into which a boss (32, 34) of the applicator element (20) fits.

9. Device in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the applicator element (20) is wheel-shaped or cylindrical.

Description:
DEVICE FOR APPLYING A COSMETIC PRODUCT

The invention concerns a device for applying a cosmetic product with a holder and an applicator element, in which the holder has two arms arranged at a distance from each other and which is designed to hold the applicator element between the two arms.

Devices of the type mentioned at the start are known, for example from EP 1 498 045 A1. In the known devices the two arms are in each instance designed to be bifurcated in their end sections. For assembly a boss of the wheel-shaped applicator element is inserted into the prongs. As the prongs are open in each case at the free end of both arms, the mount is not satisfactorily reliable. In addition, it is difficult to guarantee the required rotation of the wheel-shaped applicator element without reducing the mount's reliability.

From DE 10 2007 036 351 At and US D 729,446 S appropriate devices are known in each case in which the bosses of the respective wheel-shaped applicator elements are indeed held firmly by the limitation of a circular recess. However, assembly is expensive because the boss must be inserted into the recess from the outside. The invention has the object of further developing the device of the type mentioned above in such a manner that a reliable mounting of the applicator element is ensured in which the assembly effort is reduced. The applicator element should also be able to be fitted and removed with no damage, for example when changing it.

The task set is solved in accordance with the invention in that the two arms can be adjusted in relation to each other and can adopt at least two operating positions, i.e. an initial operating position in which the distance between both arms is sufficient to introduce or remove the applicator element from the gap between both arms and a second operating position, in which the distance between both arms is smaller than in the initial operating position and in which the applicator element is held in the gap by the arms.

In other words, the invention is proposing to form the gap between both arms obviously so that the applicator element, including the boss if need be, can also be introduced into one of the arms facing at least one axle or a part of axle. By doing so, the fact that the arms have to be forked at their free end is avoided. The applicator element is held securely between both arms, Should the occasion arise, an insertion of any boss provided from outside is not required. The required rotatability and slewing capacity is ensured at the same time.

If it is mentioned above that the applicator element is held in the gap in the second operating position of the arms, and for this reason the impression is given that the applicator element cannot be taken out of the gap in this operating position, particularly compared to the first operating position.

In principle the applicator element can be shaped at will in accordance with the invention. However, it is preferred that it can be rotated or slewed in the second operating position around an axle which runs through both arms. It can therefore be formed as a wheel, for example. However, as regards the holder it can also be held immovably.

In accordance with the invention an elastic reset force is preferably provided which counteracts a shift of the arms from the second to the first operating position. On account of this arrangement the arms in each case are moved automatically into the second operating position and hold the applicator element without any further measures having to be taken to do so.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention a pivot-thrust bearing is provided between both arms so that at least one of the arms to be moved between the first and second operating positions can be swivelled.

This represent a particularly simple mechanical solution.

According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, provision is made in respect of the pivot-thrust bearing for the holder to have a recess in an area located opposite the arms in the area lying opposite the arms and a lateral compression of this area produces a movement of the arms in the direction of the first operating position.

In other words, according to this embodiment, the device is designed as a kind of clothes-peg. As with the clothes-peg, one of the two arms is opened in a limited forward area if the rear section is laterally compressed. In this instance a pivoting occurs around the pivot-thrust bearing.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the pivot-thrust bearing is designed to be integral with at least one of the arms. The device is simplified overall on this account. The pivot-thrust bearing can of course also be designed to be integral with both arms.

According to the invention, at least one of the arms and/or the area lying opposite the arms in respect of the pivot-thrust bearing is/are preferably made of plastic, particularly from ABS, PP, PE,. POM or PVC. These materials in particular can be designed with the appropriate elasticity, on account of which further spring elements are unnecessary.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, provision is made that at least one of the arms has a recess into which a boss of the applicator element fits. On account of this the pivot axle of a retained pivotable applicator element can for example be hefd so as not to tilt.

Of course, both arms can have such recesses so that a symmetrical mounting of the applicator element results. Such a recess can be produced in the form of a blind hole, but also in the form of a through hole.

In this instance the invention also covers the converse of the above-mentioned principle, according to which at least one of the two arms has a stub shaft which engages in the mounted state in a recess of the applicator element, on account of which the applicator element is held so it can rotate or pivot.

Finally, in accordance with the invention provision is preferably made so that the applicator element is wheel-shaped or cylindrical.

The invention is explained in more detail with further details below using preferred embodiments and with reference to the enclosed drawing. In this instance the following show

The cosmetic device in accordance with Fig. 1 includes a reservoir 10 for a cosmetic product, for example eyeliner. For locking the reservoir 10 is screwed together with a stem 12, which can also be designed as a locking element. Screw threads 14, 16 are used to this end. A holder 18, which holds a wheel-shaped applicator element 20, is fixed to the stem 12. A seal 22, which also acts at the same time as a scraper for excess cosmetic product on the holder 18 and the applicator element 20, is used to seal the reservoirs 10. The holder 18 has two arms 24, 26 between which the applicator element 20 is held. In Figures 1 and 2 a pivot-thrust bearing 28 lies above the arms 24, 26, and seen from the arms 24 and 26, there is a recess 30 behind the pivot-thrust bearing 28.

The pivot-thrust bearing 28 is designed as a bar and is integral with the arms 24, 26 and the remainder of the 18. PP is used as the material in the embodiment shown.

PP has a certain elasticity. By lateral compression the holder 18 can therefore be moved from the operating position shown in Fig. 2a) into the operating position according to Fig. 2b), in which the arms 24 and 26 open as with a clothes-peg. In this state the applicator element 20 can be passed between the arms 24 and 26 in accordance with Fig. 2c). The applicator element 20 has a boss in the form of two opposing stub shafts 32, 34, which are used for fitting into corresponding through holes 36, 38 on the arms 24 and 26,

If the pressure for opening the arms 24 and 26 liker a clothes-peg is now reduced, then both arms 24 and 26 adopt the operational state in accordance with Fig. 2d) due to the elastic reset force of the PP material used, in which the applicator element 20 is retained between the arms 24 and 26 and can indeed be pivoted.

To change the applicator element 20, both arms 24 and 26 only have to be opened again by lateral pressure, whereupon the applicator element 20 can be removed without destroying it and replaced with a new one.

Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the holder of the applicator device in accordance with the invention, in this instance Fig. 3a) shows a schematic side view, Fig. 3b) the same view as Fig. 3a), but in cross-section and Fig. 3c) the same view as Fig. 3a), but rotated through 90°. Fig. 3e) shows an axial view of the holder in the same operating state as Figures 3a), b) and c). In each case the holder is again labelled with reference number 18.

Gn the other hand, Figures 3d) and f) show the same views as Figures 3a) and e), but in another operating state, i.e. in that operating state in which an applicator element 40 can be inserted, as described in detail above in connection with the embodiment according to Figures 1 and 2. The applicator element 40 fitting into the holder 18 in the embodiment in Fig. 3 is shown schematically in the drawing, it can be designed as desired as long as it can be held between the arms 24, 26 in the operating position in Figures 3a), b), c) and e). Thus, for example, it can have a circular and cylindrical stem which is retained by the arms and upon which a brush, a fibre tip, soft application elements, which if appropriate can be flocked, or similar is attached.

The characteristics of the invention disclosed in the specification above, the claims and the drawing can be essential for implementing the invention in its various embodiments both individually and in any desired combinations.
