Abstract:
Provided is a device (10) for attaching buttons in which the amount of downward displacement of a cradle die (30) can be readily adjusted according to the thickness of the fabric (3) when a fastener (2) is swaged to a button (1), and which can effectively absorb shocks applied the cradle die (30) in accordance with the fabric thickness. The button (1) is held in the bottom part of the attachment die (20), the fastener (2) is placed in the top part of the cradle die (30), and the fabric (3) is positioned between the button (1) and the fastener (2). The attachment die (20) is thereafter lowered towards the cradle die (30) to bottom dead center, whereupon the downwardly directed weight of the cradle die (30) is displaced downward, and the cradle die (30) is halted at a permissible amount of displacement at the same time that the attachment die (20) reaches bottom dead center. The permissible amount of displacement for the cradle die (30) is based on a setting inputted in advance to a controller (50). The timing immediately prior to the attachment die (20) reaching bottom dead center is detected by a timing detection means, and the controller (50) receives a detection signal from the timing detection means, and outputs an operation signal to a solenoid (44). The solenoid (44) halts the cradle die (30) at the permissible amount of displacement.
