Title:
DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC AND PROGRAMMED SAMPLING AND DOSINGOF LIQUID MEDIUMS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/081540
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The design of the device allows automatic and programmed liquid medium sampling during a technological process. A sample obtained by periodical withdrawing is highly representative and used in laboratory analysis ofi product quality control. The device consists of a housing accommodating the pistons (3) and (4) the movement of which works on the pin (9) to close the opening of the seat (11) and let the medium from the chamber (14) flow out into the vessel (12). The spring (8) returns the pistons (3) and (4) into the upper position and the chamber (14) is filled with the medium. The spring (10) works on the pin (9) to close the opening of the seat (11). During the sampling, the withdrawn medium is stored in the vessel (12) which is detachable, sealed tight and safiely carried away to the laboratory. Since the devices of this type are mostly used in oil and petrochemical industry, they are explosion-proof. The invention can also be used for dosing liquid mediums into the technological process.

PATENT CLAIMS
1. The automatic and programmed liquid sampling and dosing device is connected to the pipeline from which medium samples are taken periodically and stored in the vessel (12), it is characterized in that the housing accommodates the piston (3) and, connected to it, the piston (4), the spring (8) and the pin (9) with the spring (10) in the seat (11).
2. The device, according to claim 1, is characterized in that it is screwed onto the pipe by means of the valve (6), the connection (13) and the drip trap (7) which, in addition to a longitudinal bore, contains radial bores in its part within the process pipe, so that the sample is taken through the whole crosssection of the pipe, thus ensuring its higher quality.
3. The device, according to claims 1 and 2, is characterized in that it can also be used as a doser, where the process connection (7) is attached to the vessel containing liquid dosing medium and the sampler outlet is connected to the process pipe where dosing is carried out.
4. The device, according to claims 1,2 and 3, is characterized in that the electronic programmer (1) and the electromagnetic distributor (2) have explosionproof design, so that the whole device can be installed in a space filled with explosive compounds.
Description:
DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC AND PROGRAMMED SAMPLING AND DOSING OF LIQUID MEDIUMS Area covered by the Invention : According to IPC, this Invention can be classified under sampling - G01N1/10 - ... in the liquid or fluent state - G01N1/14 - ... suction devices; ejector devices Technical problem: The technical problem solved by this Invention consists in the Mowing : - automatic and programmed sampling of liquid mediums fro the pipelines during the technological process ; - automatic and programmed dosing of liquid medium into the pipelines during the technological process.

State-of-the-art : Sampling of liquids during the technological process for the purpose of laboratory analyses in product quality control is usually done manually through a discharge valve on the pipeline or the tank, and the whole sample quantity is withdrawn at once. Manual sampling cannot yield satisfactory representative results, because a manually withdrawn sample represents a one-time product quality.

The essence of the Invention : The automatic sampling device allows programmed sampling throughout the technological process or at times when the samples are particularly relevant from the technological point of view. A sample obtained by withdrawing liquid medium in smaller quantities but with greater frequency represents the average product quality. Sampling can be conducted in operating conditions when the system is under pressure. The same device, if suitably connected, can be used for programmed dosing of various additives to the technological process.

The device for automatic and programmed liquid medium sampling and dosing is shown in the attached drawings:

O Fig. 1-oross-sedion (sampling phasX

# Fig. 2 - cross-section (sample storing phase)

@ Fig. 3-cross-section (dosing phase) The device for automatic and programme liquid medium sampling and dosing, as shown in the attached drawings, consists of a housing accommodating the actuator piston (3) with gaskets, the sampler piston (4) with gaskets, the spring (8) with a

support, the spring (10) with a support, the seat (11) with a bore, and the pin (9). Over the tube connection (13) and the valve (6) the device is attached to the pipeline. The tube connection (13) contains the drip trap (7) with one axial bore and several radial bores.

The device in sampling operation The electronic programmer (1), fed by control voltage, operates the electromagnetic distributor (2) which has three attachments : A, B, C. Attachment (C) is connected to compressed air or some other neutral gas under pressure serving for drive of the piston (3) and the piston (4). When the electromagnetic distributor is not under voltage, (B) and (C) are connected, the chamber (5) is under atmospheric pressure and the spring (8) holds the piston (3 and the piston (4) in the upper position, whereas the spring (10) holds the pin (9) pressed to the seat (11).

Medium from the pipeline, through the drip trap (7) and the plug valve (6), fills the chamber (14). When the electromagnetic distributor (2) is energized by the electronic programmer (1), (A) and (B) are connected and the liquid pressure works on the piston (3) which overpowers the spring (8) and forces the piston (4) down into the lower position; the liquid from the chamber (14) is forced out through the opening in the seat (11) into the vial (12). Then the electronic programmer (1) de-energizes the electromagnetic distributor (2), (B) and (G) are connected, the chamber (5) is discharged and the pistons (3) and (4) return to their original positions, while the chamber (14) is ready to take another portion of the medium. Sampling is repeated in the described sequence and as adjusted on the programmer.

When used as a doser, the device operates in the same way, except that now the process connection (7) is attached to the vessel containing dosing medium, and the sampler outlet is attached to the process connection at the point where liquid is injected.

Instructions for optimum industrial application In the fabrication of the Invention materials should be chosen which can with hold pressures occurring in the system as well as the chemical properties of the tested medium.
