Abstract:

A device for clarifying an exhaust gas from an engine, wherein the air fuel ratio of a mixed gas to be fed to the engine is set at a value richer than a stoichiometric ratio, the capacity (clarification percentage) of a first catalyst (6) is so adjusted that an exhaust gas having passed through the first catalyst (6) contains NO_x and NH₃ in amounts necessary for the subsequent reaction, and a third catalyst (11) is provided between a feeding point for a secondary air and a second catalyst (7) to reduce the above NO_x to N₂ and H₂O in an atmosphere of the above NH₃and secondary air.
