Abstract:
The present invention provides: a device for controlling a rotating machine in which a configuration necessary to check the function of cutting off a switching element is simplified; and an electric power steering device. A device (1) for controlling a rotating machine (3), said device (1) performing a high-potential-side forced cutoff or a low-potential-side forced cutoff, and assessing a fault in an element cutoff unit on the basis of the detected current or voltage value when the high-potential-side forced cutoff or low-potential-side forced cutoff is performed. The high-potential-side forced cutoff involves forcibly cutting off a high-potential-side switching element of a phase to be diagnosed, in a drive state in which the winding current in the phase to be diagnosed is positive. The low-potential-side forced cutoff involves forcibly cutting off a low-potential-side switching element of the phase to be diagnosed, in a drive state in which the winding current in the phase to be diagnosed is negative.
