Abstract:
The present invention provides a contactless device for detecting breakage of a comb plate, the device not readily being affected by fouling of a step in a passenger conveyor. This breakage detection device (8) comprises a cleat part (12), a plurality of electrode pairs (139), a measurement unit (16), and a detection unit (17). The cleat part (12), which comprises an insulating material, is attached to the upper surface of a step (6). The cleat part (12) has a plurality of groove sections (19) provided lined up in the left-right direction so as to be parallel to one another along the front-rear direction. The electrode pairs (13) are disposed on groove walls of the groove sections (19) so as to face one another in the left-right direction. The measurement unit (16) measures the capacitance between each of the electrode pairs (13). When the amount of change in capacitance measured for an electrode pair (13) disposed in any groove section (19) is less than a preset threshold value while the step (6) is passing through a comb plate (4), the detection unit (17) detects breakage of a comb tooth (11) passing through the groove section (19).
