Title:
A DEVICE FOR DETECTING BULGES IN TYRES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/131999
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A device (110) for detecting a bulge in a sidewall and/or ground engaging surface of a tyre having a shroud (117) for extending along at least a portion of the outer surface of the tyre wall. The shroud (117) is spaced apart a short distance from the outer surface of the tyre wall, the distance being predetermined to define the acceptable tolerance of a bulge in a tyre. The shroud (117) is connectable to a portion of the wheel support assembly (211) which is fixed relative to a rotating wheel. The shroud (117) is operably coupled to a transducer (130) for converting displacement of the shroud (117) into an electrical energy or an electrical signal as a result of a bulge having dimensions greater than the predetermined tolerance being detected by the shroud (117).
