Abstract:
Provided are a device for detecting the central portion of a position detection area on a sheet of printing paper in a printer, a method for detecting the central portion of a position detection area, a device for detecting the print-start position of a sheet of printing paper, a method for detecting a print-start position, and a printer, wherein the central portion (5A) of a position detection mark (5) (position detection area) in the conveying direction of a continuum of labels (1) (printing paper) is detected without adjusting or setting a threshold level, regardless of the type or characteristics of the printing paper (1). Noting that it is possible to calculate the print-start position (4A) of a label piece (4) by detecting the central portion (5A) of the position detection area (5), and that it is possible to detect the central portion (5A) by assessing whether the gradient of an analog waveform is increasing or decreasing, and the device is configured so that a sensor is activated each time the printing paper (1) is conveyed a prescribed pitch, the adjacent detected levels are compared, and the central portion (5A) of the position detection area (5) is detected on the basis of the maximum value (39A) of the detected signals from the sensor.
