Abstract:
A sensor for outputting signals relating to the concentration and remaining amount of liquid reducer according to the heat conduction characteristic between spaced tow points is installed in a storage tank where the liquid reducer is stored. A controller incorporating a computer judges that the vehicle state of a vehicle becomes stable when the stop time during which the vehicle continuously stop reaches a predetermined time. Further if the vehicle state is stable, the controller calculates the concentration of the liquid reducer from the signals from the sensor in response to a measurement trigger outputted every predetermined time after the engine is started, and estimates the remaining amount of liquid reduce from the signals from the sensor irrespective of the vehicle state. Therefore, the concentration of the liquid reducer is calculated only when no convection occurs in the storage tank and consequently the accuracies of detection of the concentration and remaining amount of liquid reducer can be both ensured.
