Abstract:
A deformed-coin detection device (41) capable of accurately detecting a deformed
coin without being affected by a variation in conveyance speed of the coin. When
a coin conveyed along a coin conveyance surface (26) comes into contact with a
detector (64) of a coin-thickness detection body (60), the detector (64) moves
by a distance corresponding to the dimension in the thickness direction of the
coin and, at the same time, a light shielding section (65) of the coin- thickness
detection body (60) moves. A light detection section (69) detects a light shielding
amount that varies as the light shielding section (65) moves. A coin denomination
determination section (43) determines the denomination of the coin conveyed
along the coin conveyance surface (26) and reads a standard light-shielding
amount for this denomination which amount is previously stored in standard light
shielding amount storage means. The light shielding amount detected by the
light detection section (69) and the standard light shielding amount are compared
with each other, and when the relationship of the detected light shielding amount
to the standard light shielding amount is outside a predetermined range, the
coin is determined to be a deformed coin.
