Abstract:
A reforming device which decompose a hydrocarbon mixture such as natural gas and carry out the selective permeation of hydrogen using a composite material for separating hydrogen, to thereby form a fuel gas for a fuel cell, wherein the composite material for hydrogen separation comprises a porous support formed of ceramic or the like and a hydrogen separation metal carried thereon so as to block pores thereof within it. The composite material may further comprise a modification catalyst carried on the porous support. The composite material has an increased area for the contact of the hydrogen separation metal with a gas to be separated, due to the above-mentioned structure , and thus improved performance capabilities for hydrogen separation. Further, a method wherein a total pressure is set higher than that of a raw material gas supplying side, without increasing the pressure of hydrogen, is provided for preventing the leak of the raw material gas through pin holes. The above-mentioned means and the like allow the realization of a reforming device exhibiting improved performance capabilities for hydrogen separation with a miniaturized size.
