Abstract:

A current-limiting device (4) is connected in series with a discharge lamp (3). The current-limiting device (4) is composed of a capacitor having, as a dielectric, ferroelectric polycrystal ceramics mainly containing barium titanate (BaTiO3), which have the following characteristics: the ratio (Z2/Z1) is less than 1/10 where Z1 is the impedance estimated from the current when measured under an alternating electric field of 5V/mm, and Z2 is the impedance estimated under an alternating electric field of less than 500V/mm, so that the current-limiting device is miniaturized and has less power loss.
