Abstract:
Provided are a device for manufacturing an optical fiber preform and a method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform, whereby a high-quality optical fiber preform can be manufactured without increasing cost. The device for manufacturing an optical fiber preform includes: a holding part which rotatably holds a target, with the axis of rotation being the central axis of the target; a plurality of burner parts which are disposed at mutually differing positions in the circumferential direction of the target and form a flame for generating glass particles to be deposited on the target, and which can reciprocate along the target in a movable range between a first position on one end side of the target and a second position on the other end side of the target; and a control unit which controls the plurality of burner parts such that the return movement speeds of the plurality of burner parts that are reciprocating differ from each other.
