A means for measuring the stringiness of a liquid material capable of measuring the stringiness of a sample in an amount as small as possible, digital measuring, automatic measuring, and eliminating individual differences in measurements that might be caused by measuring persons. The device for measuring the stringiness of a liquid material comprises a sample receiving dish consisting of a conductive material, an upper contact in contact at the lower end thereof with an sample, for detecting the stringing length of the sample when lifted, a retainer loosely fitted to the upper contact to keep it vertically slidable and electrically coupled with it by the self-weight or under the resilient pressure of the upper contact, a lifting table for gripping and vertically moving the retainer, a motor for vertically moving the upper contact, a motor drive circuit and its operation circuit, and a sample/upper contact contacting judging circuit.
