Abstract:
Provided are a device and method for controlling a starter, whereby determinations to stop and restart an engine can be appropriately made according to surrounding conditions while the vehicle is coasting. A vehicle speed information acquisition unit (1) acquires vehicle speed information indicating the vehicle speed. An external surroundings information acquisition unit (2) acquires external surroundings information indicating information about objects outside of the vehicle. A driver request information acquisition unit (3) acquires driver request information indicating a request the driver makes of the vehicle. When the driver request information indicates a vehicle deceleration request, an engine automatic stop/restart determination unit (4) determines whether or not to stop the engine (22) on the basis of the vehicle speed information and the external surroundings information.
