Abstract:
A water distiller (1) comprises a sub-atmospheric boiler (40) having a non-recirculating brine section, an input (43) for water tobe distilled, a brine output (80, 85, 86) for brine, and a vapor output for water vapor, a compressor connected to the vapor output for heating the water vapor, and a heated vapor line (92) connected to an output of the compressor, the heated vapor line (92) heating the brine section (42). Also provided is a method for distilling water comprising the steps of entering water (43) to be distilled into a sub-atmospheric boiler (40), a part of the water t o be distilled boiling immediately and a part entering a brine section (42) of the boiler; raising a temperature of water vapor exiting the boiler (40) so as to form a heated water vapor; passing the heated water vapor by the brine section (42) so as to heat the brine section (42); and removing brine from the brine section (42) when the brine reaches a predetermined salinity.
