Title:
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING THE TEMPERATURE OF A CATALYST OF A VEHICLE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/012752
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a technique for estimating in a simple and accurate fashion the temperature of an exhaust emissions purifying catalyst provided on an engine of a vehicle. To be specific, assuming that the temperature Tws of a cooling water when the engine is started is equal to the outside air temperature, the amount Tm of heat dissipated from a catalyst is estimated based on the cooling water temperature Tws at the time of engine start and the vehicle speed VSP. Then, the time integral value STm of the heat dissipation amount Tm is calculated. Assuming that the suction air amount Q of the engine is equal to the exhaust amount thereof, the heat reception amount Tp that the catalyst absorbs from the exhaust is estimated based on the suction air amount Q. Then, the time integral value STp of the heat reception amount Tp is calculated. Here, the heat dissipation amount STm is deducted from the heat reception amount STp to calculate an amount X of heat held in the catalyst. By comparing the catalyst held heat amount x with a predetermined value whether or not the catalyst has reached an activating temperature is estimated.
