Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for finding fault points and to a method for finding fault points. According to an embodiment of this invention, the device for finding fault points can comprise: a pulse generating unit which applies pulse signals to a cable; a waveform measuring unit which measures 1st signals comprising the pulse signals applied to the cable or returning reflected-wave signals obtained by reflection of the pulse signals; a signal extraction unit which extracts step-specific approximate signals by subjecting the 1st signals to wavelet transformation in n steps, and extracts 2nd signals by multiplying each of the step-specific approximate signals - where n is a natural number and represents the number of times that the wavelet transformation is repeated; and a fault point detection unit which calculates the locations of cable fault points by using the time difference between waveforms, constituted by the difference between the time of occurrence of the first waveform and the time of occurrence of the second waveform, from the 2nd signals.
