A device and method for limiting the vehicle speed of a working vehicle, wherein it is possible not only to obtain a smooth running condition when the vehicle speed is limited but also set a limit to the vehicle speed that is suited to the environmental conditions. To this end, a vehicle speed control device (10) judges that the vehicle should run at a limited vehicle speed when a vehicle speed signal exceeds a vehicle speed limit value, calculates a correcting step-down stroke signal by a control gain based on a deviation value between a vehicle speed signal and a vehicle speed limit value such that the deviation value becomes smaller and outputs it to an engine control device (40), while when a vehicle speed signal is smaller than a vehicle speed limit value and the correcting step-down stroke signal is greater than a step-down stroke signal, the control device judges that the vehicle should be accelerated and outputs the step-down stroke signal to the engine control device (40).
