Abstract:
Provided is a device for positioning a magnetic head so that the head can be positioned with a high speed and a high precision over a required operating range, and that disturbance suppression characteristics can be readily set and adjusted. The device for positioning a magnetic head comprises: a first actuator for driving a first movable part; a second actuator provided to the first movable part, the second actuator driving a second movable part; and a third actuator provided to the second movable part, the third actuator driving a third movable part, wherein the device is provided with two estimating means in which a composite displacement from displacements of the three movable parts is fed back to a control system and compared with a target position, and a deviation is determined and is input to the control element of each stage; and in which characteristics at which a displacement response will be reached are individually estimated from drive signals of actuators of the second and third stages, and an estimated relative displacement is outputted. The estimated relative displacement of the second stage is added to the deviation inputted to the control element of the first stage, and the estimated relative displacement of the third stage is added to the deviation inputted to the control elements of the first and second stages.
