Abstract:
The present invention, namely a device for separating aircraft structural components, relates to devices intended for the controlled separation of aircraft structural components. For this purpose it is proposed to use an electrostatic lock, which is a device that is held closed by the force of electrostatic attraction between opposite electrical charges. The main component of the electrostatic lock is a contacting pair of electrodes, which are separated by a sufficiently thin layer of a dielectric. With the aid of the electrostatic lock, aircraft structural components are separated very naturally and smoothly; when a signal for separation is given and the lock is opened, the force holding the components together in a single structure is instantaneously reduced practically to zero with no additional static or dynamic loads arising in or between the components of the aircraft. This results in a manifold reduction in the risk of accidents during the separation of aircraft structural components.
