Abstract:

An opening/closing device (3) with a brake returns a liquid crystal display (1) from an exposed position (1B) to a stowed position (1A) by using elastic restoring force of a spiral spring (18) that has been wound up in opening operation of the liquid crystal display (1) performed by rotational force of a motor. A rope (21) whose tensile force increases and decreases with opening and closing of the liquid crystal display (1) is wound around a slip clutch (15) connected to a reduction gear input shaft (17a), and braking force for preventing the liquid crystal display (1) from returning vigorously is applied to the reduction gear input shaft (17a). In an emergency such as breakage of the rope (21), a centrifugal claw (53) of a rotation restriction mechanism (50) engages a stationary engagement step surface (56b) to forcibly stop the rotation of the input shaft (17a). As a result, the opening/closing device for the liquid crystal display is realized, and the brake mechanism of the device is simple in structure, highly reliable and safe, and inexpensive.
