Title:
DIAGNOSTIC REAGENTS FOR RENAL FUNCTION DISORDERS AND METHOD FOR ANALYZING URINE SAMPLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/048044
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Reagents and methods for conveniently, quickly and accurately diagnosing renal function disorders. Free ATP contained in urine samples of a patient with renal function disorders is assayed based on bioluminescence with the use of luciferin and luciferase. By measuring the free ATP level, general renal function disorders can be conveniently, quickly and accurately diagnosed. This method comprises sampling the urine of a patient under the administration of an anticancer agent with renal toxicity, such as cisplatin or methotrexate, with the passage of time and assaying ATP in the urine samples based on bioluminescence to thereby examine a change in the ATP level. Thus, it has become possible to find out excessive administration of the drug or the patient's hypersensitiveness thereto and to determine the optimum administration dose (the maximum allowable dose) of the drug, thus avoiding renal function disorders caused by the side effects of the drug.
