Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a diagonally expanding balloon catheter which does not cause misalignment between the central axis of a blood vessel and the central axis of a catheter body even in a curved blood vessel, in which the balloon is capable of expanding diagonally such that the balloon tilts relative to the body tube, an area of contact of the balloon with the vessel does not decrease, the balloon does not crease in a contracted state, and the balloon does not tend to slip, and which is capable of increasing adhesion between a vessel wall and the balloon to prevent leakage of blood; and a balloon base. This balloon catheter is provided with a balloon base (5) on the front end of a tubular catheter body (2) having a predetermined length. The balloon base (5) has a cylindrical base (15) which has a diameter larger than the outer diameter of the catheter body and in which a bore (6) having substantially the same diameter as the outer diameter of the catheter body, opens both ends of the base (15) and is formed along the entire length of the base (15). The central axis of the bore is tilted at a predetermined angle relative to the central axis of the base which is concentric with the central axis of the catheter body, and an outer circumferential surface is formed parallel to the central axis of the base. A balloon (3) is provided on the parallel outer circumferential surface of the base and diagonally expands relative to the central axis of the catheter body (2) when expanding.
