Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a dialkyl sulfide which makes it possible to form a metal sulfide coating film on the surface of a metal effectively even under low-temperature environments, has excellent storage stability, and is suitable as an extreme-pressure additive. The present invention provides a dialkyl sulfide represented by general formula (1) (wherein R1 and R2 independently represent an alkyl group; and n represents an integer), wherein the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 1 is 10.0% by mass or less relative to the total amount of compounds each represented by general formula (1), the sum total of the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 2, the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 3 and the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 4 is 50.0 to 70.0% by mass relative to the total amount of the compounds each represented by general formula (1), and the sum total of the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 5, the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 6, the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 7 and the content of a compound represented by general formula (1) wherein n is 8 is 30.0 to 40.0% by mass relative to the total amount of the compounds each represented by general formula (1).
